I was anxiously awaiting Jessica and Mike’s University of Chicago wedding since I’d never photographed there before and knew it would be a stunning backdrop for their event. I always encourage my clients to just be themselves (as hard as that can be in front of a camera!) and they didn’t need much coaching. The two were very natural together and were full of goofy and fun ideas that made our portrait session a blast!
I started with Jessica, her bridesmaids and parents at the Hyatt Place near the university. I loved the window light at the hotel and it was an emotional morning with many hugs, tears and gifts.
After everyone had finished getting ready, we headed to the University of Chicago for the ceremony. It took place right outside of Ida Noyes Hall, a gorgeous neo-gothic building with lots of greenery and colorful stonework. They chose to dance down the aisle, which was very fun to photograph! While the two were exchanging their vows, the bells from the church across the street went off, forcing them to yell their “I Do’s” and erupt in laughter. It was definitely a ceremony to remember and completely fit their carefree attitudes!
I loved Jessica and Mike’s unique, quirky details and they really made the reception space, which is already stunning, even more special.
After their entrances, the couple and guests shared a root beer toast and their first dances with their parents.
Then it was dance party time! Their friends were on the dance floor all night and I spent a lot of time laughing while shooting the party.
I’ve been trying to end each wedding with a fun night shot of the couple before I head home. The courtyard at the University of Chicago made for a perfect backdrop for Jessica and Mike’s shot!
Congrats you two! Special thanks to all of the other vendors that made this University of Chicago wedding so fantastic!
